Exit polls are commonly conducted during voting so that the news media can project a winner, and so that statistics can be generated which will show the demographic distribution of votes.
Imagine the usefulness of geographic vote distribution analysis on the level of individual addresses. This sort of survey is perfectly suited to Pen Tablet PC applications but can be performed by any PC. At selected polling stations, a poll taker or surveyor can inquire from each voter how they voted, and record their vote and their address. The information can be immediately integrated into a GIS application that can periodically analyze the results, for example, every hour, and show the results on a map, at any scale from local to country-wide. This will allow the pattern of voter choices to be immediately apparent. Political operatives will be able to see at a glance where they should concentrate their efforts, even as the election is in progress. Afterwards, geographical analyses of the voting patterns will help the political parties to allocate their resources for the next elections most effectively. There are many tools in the political arena. Pen tablet PC GIS applications for elections promises to be one of the most powerful ones.
